Governor Proposes Deep Cuts to Transit Budget!
In the Governors May Budget Revision he proposes to shift $1 billion in transit revenue to the General Fund deficit. This would reduce the State Transit Assistance Program from the $743 million he proposed in January to $306 million – the same level as the current year.
Now is the time to call, write and e-mail your state representatives to let them know what will happen in their district if transit takes even more cuts in funding. In addition, get your citizen advisory committee members to call their Senators or Assembly members to let them know how much they depend on public transportation to get them to work and other life sustaining services. To have an impact on the budget decision you must call by June 1, 2008.
Please read the attached memo on the Governors May Budget Revision. Please take a few moments of your time to advocate for funding of transportation in California.
